Real Mallorca 1-0 Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane's unbeaten start ended by Mallorca
Real Mallorca 1-0 Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane's unbeaten start ended by Mallorca

Barcelona take top spot after Real's shock defeat

Real Madrid's unbeaten league start was ended as they were stunned 1-0 by promoted Real Mallorca.

Barcelona's 3-0 win at Eibar earlier in the day had relegated Real to second place, and Zinedine Zidane's side failed to reclaim top spot as Lago Junior's seventh-minute strike proved decisive.

Real's misery was completed 17 minutes from time when right-back Alvaro Odriozola was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Odriozola had been walking a tightrope from the 19th minute, and he slipped off it when he foolishly challenged Lago Junior and left Real one man short.

Mallorca had to defend for long periods, especially in the second half as a white-shirted wave came towards them, but Real lacked a cutting edge and rarely tested home goalkeeper Manolo Reina.

It was Mallorca's best win since their promotion from the Segunda Division and moved them out of the relegation spots and into 14th place.

Real were without injured trio Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, and summer signing Eden Hazard was also missing after his wife had given birth.

So Luka Jovic made his first league start in nearly a month to join Karim Benzema in attack. Isco tested Mallorca goalkeeper Reina with an early effort but Real were soon behind.

Odriozola allowed Lago Junior to cut inside him onto his right foot and curl a splendid shot past Thibaut Courtois - his first La Liga goal coming two seasons after he was playing in the third tier for Malaga.

Mallorca thought they had doubled their lead after 14 minutes when Ante Budimir drove home but the assistant referee had correctly flagged for offside.

Real dominated as the half wore on with Benzema striking the crossbar from close range and Reina holding Marcelo's powerful 20-yard shot.

Mallorca sent on full-back Lumor Agbenyenu for the second half and he tried his luck from distance within 30 seconds, his rising shot just clearing Courtois' crossbar.

But the pattern of the first half was soon re-established as Real set up camp in Mallorca territory.

Reina held Benzema's deflected strike and Sergio Ramos sent a 25-yard free-kick over the bar.

However, Real often lacked composure around the edge of the penalty area as Mallorca got bodies around the ball.

Real were still struggling to create clear-cut chances when Odriozola dived in to stop Lago Junior to receive his second yellow card.

Reina had to collect Eder Militao's header when James Rodriguez floated a free kick into a crowded penalty area.

But, in truth, Mallorca saw out the closing stages in comfort and well worth their unlikely victory.

Elsewhere in La Liga
Atletico Madrid remain fourth, three points behind Barcelona and one adrift of surprise package Granada after drawing 1-1 at home against Valencia.

Diego Costa's first-half penalty, after the video assistant referee adjudged Valencia midfielder Denis Cheryshev to have handled, was cancelled out by Daniel Parejo's brilliant late free kick.

Valencia's South Korea midfielder Lee Kang-in was sent off in stoppage time after his yellow card, for his challenge on Carlos Soler, was upgraded to a red by VAR.

Getafe registered their third straight win in all competitions thanks to forward Angel Rodriguez's second-half double in a 2-0 home victory against Leganes.

Devils land P.K. Subban from Predators in first blockbuster trade of 2019 NHL Draft

Devils land P.K. Subban from Predators in first blockbuster trade of 2019 NHL Draft

So much for a quiet 2019 NHL Draft on the trade front.
A day after the first round of this weekend's event came and went without anything close to a significant veteran swap, the Nashville Predators have shipped All-Star defenseman P.K. Subban to the New Jersey Devils.
First reported by TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the move comes the same week Subban's name was floated in the "trade-sphere," with TSN's Bob McKenzie suggesting the Predators were looking to clear salary cap space for either a pending free agent or Roman Josi contract extension. As reported by The Athletic's Corey Masisak, Subban's departure to New Jersey reads like exactly that -- a salary dump -- with the Devils sending Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies and two second-round draft picks to Nashville for the veteran blue-liner.
After the Devils announced the trade, Subban took to social media to thank the Nashville fans and organization, and also celebrate the trade with his dogs:
As part of the deal, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Devils will absorb all of the remainder of Subban's contract, which he inked with the Montreal Canadiens back in 2014 and will cost $9 million in each of the next three seasons. In return, however, they'll get one of the NHL's most established defensemen, who's totaled more than 50 points in four of his last six years.
A three-time All-Star and former Norris Trophy winner who spent the first seven years of his NHL career with the Canadiens, Subban isn't necessarily entering his prime at age 30, and he's played fewer than 70 games in three of his last four seasons. But he immediately upgrades New Jersey's blue line at the cost of two borderline NHL prospects and a pair of second-rounders, one of which comes in 2020, just two years after helping the Predators advance to the Stanley Cup Final. Also among the league's most colorful personalities, he was last traded in 2016, when Nashville acquired him in a swap for Shea Weber.

Fight world crushes Paulie Malignaggi after stunning loss to Artem Lobov at Bare Knuckle FC 6
Artem Lobov, a former UFC fighter, and Paulie Malignaggi, hyped up their Bare Knuckle FC 6 fight with a number of fiery press conferences and threats of severe bodily harm, which led to Saturday night’s event to being highly anticipated by lots of different fight fans.
In the end, the fight was a dud that ended with a big upset, as Lobov beat Malignaggi via unanimous decision.
Even more incredibly, there was no post-fight brawl between the two camps, which became heated rivals thanks to Conor McGregor, who famously trashed Malignaggi after sparring with him while training for his fight with Floyd Mayweather. Lobov and McGregor are good friends and somehow this fight became a real thing that happened.
Saturday night’s event in Florida might not have ended the way many tuning in would have hoped, but fans, media and other fighters were still in impressed with what Lobov pulled off:

Michael Irvin erupts at Stephen A. Smith with sweat-soaked rant on Cowboys’ greatness
Michael Irvin erupts at Stephen A. Smith with sweat-soaked rant on Cowboys’ greatness
Stephen A. Smith’s job is, in many ways, to push buttons, and he arrived Monday at an entertainment and event center located near the Cowboys' AT&T Stadium ready to do just that. As it turned out, the star of ESPN’s “First Take” didn’t just get under the skin of the dozens of Dallas fans in attendance, but he also provoked quite the eruption from former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin.
Now an NFL Network analyst, Irvin makes no pretense of disguising his loyalty to the organization he helped win three Super Bowls, but as Smith noted before the Cowboys hosted the Titans on “Monday Night Football,” the glory days in Dallas are long over and the team has fallen well behind some other NFL franchises.
That was too much to bear for Irvin, who quickly required some towels to help with the considerable sweat he worked up while shouting about how the Cowboys were set to “rightfully regain and take their proper spot among kings!”
Irvin began what rapidly turned into a rant by claiming that the “championship trophies” possessed by the Cowboys put them “right up there with the Patriots and the Steelers.” He stood up and pointed at Smith, shouting as the crowd cheered, “So when you go to history, let’s go into history! Don’t just go to your history, let’s go into the history!"
“First Take” co-analyst Max Kellerman then asked Irvin if Dak Prescott was the right quarterback to “make some history” with the Cowboys, to which the ex-player pointed to Dallas’s recent trade for former Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper as the key to unlocking a bright future. “Can you really get an answer on Dak without giving him the weapons around him,” Irvin said. “I think that’s why Amari Cooper was a big deal.”
Turning to the audience and raising his voice, Irvin continued: “We needed to get Amari Cooper, and I think tonight, right here in Dallas, we see the dawn of a new day. The beginning of a new age, and a time when the Cowboys will rightfully regain and take their proper spot among kings!”
At this point, Irvin was standing and shouting, while being wiped down by a production assistant. “Do you hear me?!" he exclaimed. “Regain and take their proper spot among the kings!!”
Smith, not surprisingly, was also getting increasingly agitated, or at least acting that way for dramatic effect. “It is true that when you were a member of the Cowboys, and Jimmy Johnson came on board to coach this team,” he asked of Irvin, “is it true that Jimmy Johnson went to you, and you sat up there and said, ‘If the dawn of a new day is imminent, we need to get rid of this, and this and this'? So what happened to that philosophy?
“Y’all won two playoff games in 25 years, and you’re going to sit up here, sticking out your chest, and talk about, ‘It’s the dawn of a new day’?!” Smith shouted. To vigorous boos, he added, “Y’all ain’t nothing. You ain’t been nothing.”
Shaking his finger at Irvin, Smith got a laugh from the former Cowboy by saying, “Last time y’all were something, you had an Afro!”
However, he went right back to playing up the villain role for all it was worth, telling Irvin, “You’re a champion, walking around with rings, but these 'Boys ain’t won in 23 years and you’re sitting up here representing them. You should be ashamed of yourself!” Smith pointed to the crowd and yelled, “You should be ashamed of yourselves!”
Irvin, forehead glistening like Patrick Ewing in the fourth quarter of a playoff game against the Heat, countered that the youth of Cooper, Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott meant that the Cowboys had “10 good years” ahead of them, repeating the phrase, “Dawn of a new day.”
With Kellerman continuing to question Prescott’s ability to be a top quarterback, Irvin went back to frenzied mode, claiming that the third-year player “put up the greatest rookie season ever! Ever!” He added: “Dak Prescott is a big-time player!”
Finally, Irvin took note of what ESPN’s audience could see for some time, saying, “I’m sweating now. Why am I sweating? Is it that hot in here?”
To chants of “Mi-chael! Mi-chael!” he shouted, “I have taken over his show! 'Cause this is my city!”
Kellerman then brought up Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett, who has a 70-57 record in eight-plus years in Dallas, with two playoff appearances. “Is that a great coach?” Kellerman asked.
It was perhaps telling that the subject of the much-maligned coach elicited a far calmer response from Irvin. He said that Garrett “knows how to work with this group of guys,” adding, “Right now he has the young talent, and tonight is the beginning of that.”
